Blackburn hostel owner fined after fatal fire 14/04/2011

The owner of a hostel which was the scene of a fatal fire has been fined for breaching safety regulations. Preston Crown Court heard that the Devonshire Hotel, Bridge Street, Blackburn, had not had an appropriate fire evacuation procedure on or before a date in November 2008 when a middle aged resident died.   more info

Landlord pays £158,000 for breaches after tenants flee from blaze 06/04/2011

A residential landlord has been found guilty of fire safety breaches, following a fire where his tenants were forced to flee for their lives. Joseph Ernest Draper, then owner of 9 Hillsborough Terrace in Ilfracombe, Devon, pleaded guilty to four offences under the Fire Safety Order 2005. Appearing at Exeter Crown Court on 29th March, Mr Draper was ordered to pay a total of £135,000 in fines and £23,000 in costs. more info

Residential landlord fined for 'blatant contravention' of prohibition order 05/04/2011

A London landlord has been ordered to pay out thousands of pounds after putting tenants’ lives in danger. Adrian Francis Lasrado was prosecuted under the Housing Act in connection with a second-floor property on London Road, Hackbridge, Sutton, which had been converted into a self-contained flat. more info
