Landlord fined for putting profits before safety 23/11/2009

A landlord has been ordered to pay over £20,000 in fines and costs after pleading guilty to breaches of fire safety legislation.City of Westminster Magistrates' Court fined Mohammed Khan, £10,015 for seven breaches of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. Mr Khan has managed the property since 1997. more info

Owners who allowed tenants to continue living in their building after it was effectively "closed" by health and fire experts because of the danger it posed, have been prosecuted. Rhondda Cynon Taff Council's Environmental Health Officers (EHOs) had no choice but to serve an Emergency Prohibition Order on Washington Buildings, Porth in September last year, because of the genuine risk posed to tenants by a lack of fire escapes and fire precautions. It is believed this is the first prosecution for non compliance in Wales. more info

Solitaire Property Management Limited has today been fined £1,500 plus costs of £2,000 after pleading guilty to two offences at Southampton Magistrates Court relating to charges of the company's failure to comply with fire safety law. more info
