Director fined for fire safety breaches 24/06/2009

A director of Maureen O'Brien Ltd (in administration) the company which formerly owned the high street chain Joy has been ordered to pay over £5,500 in fines and costs after pleading guilty to serious breaches of fire safety legislation following a prosecution brought by the London Fire Brigade. more info

Supermarket feels the heat over fire safety record 01/09/2007

Co-op bosses have been fined £250,000 for flouting fire safety regulations. The lives of staff and customers were put at risk because of breaches at six stores, a court heard yesterday. A catalogue of faults was uncovered at the chain's outlets in Brighton, Saltdean, Seaford, Polegate, Forest Row and St Leonards.   more info

Successful Prosecution Under Fire Precautions (Workplace) Regulations 1997 08/08/2007

On The 8th August 2007, the Co-operative Group [CWS] Ltd appeared before Bracknell Magistrates Court for sentencing in regard to pleading guilty at a previous hearing on the 13th July 2007 to six charges under the Fire Precautions [Workplace] Regulations. Five of the offences, related to contraventions found at the premises following a serious fire on the 14th October 2004.   more info
